There are many different ranks in the Marine Corps, but they are broken into four different groups. Ranks not only show your standing in the Corps but also determines your pay grade; the higher your rank, the more you get paid. The NCO ranks, which vary from private to command sergeant major, are warrant officers, also company grade officers and, finally, field grade officers. Ranks can be earned in many different ways but mostly by hard work and showing your commitment to the Corps. NCO ranks can only be earned by enlisted soldiers. An enlisted soldier will never be able to become an officer unless they go to school and become commissioned. All officers out rank even the highest NCO's. ("Marines.com")
